COURSES OVERVIEW

APDT Pet Dog Training Instructors’ Courses 2021

Information about our online courses:

Our instructors’ courses consist of two online long weekends (Thursday -Sunday).

After each weekend you will receive homework in the form of essays which will need to be completed after each weekend.  You must join online on both weekends and submit your homework, to complete the course.

Once you are registered, we will send you the course reading list.  We ask you to complete the reading list by the end of the second weekend, but some – like learning theory books – will be particularly useful in answering your first weekend’s homework.  Access to the Association Pet Dog Trainers Students’ Library is included in the course fee, you just have to pay postage to return the books.

We have a FAQ’s section on our website which will answer all your questions.

In 2020 we were unable to offer the course at Moulton College as we normally do because of the restrictions imposed by Covid-19.   When we realised that there was going to be a ‘new normal’ we decided to offer the course on-line.  Pleased to say that it worked really well.

We always ask for feed-back from our students, and would like to share some quotes from them:

“Fantastic quality of lecturing from all lecturers – Conveyed information exceptionally well, at a manageable pace; Kept lectures interesting; Patient, approachable and responded well to all questions”

“Humour, friendship, support, information, detail, all lent itself to knowing I chose the right course and excited to participate in the next few years of training”

A lot of us got used to working on-line in 2020, but several of our students were new to Zoom.  However, with a little bit of coaching and some practice beforehand they soon realised that it was not the challenge they were expecting.

“Thought it was great! Well done everyone”

“I can’t really fault the course, it dealt with every aspect so thoroughly and clearly.  It left me wanting more and raring to learn more.  It consolidated and developed my knowledge so far whilst making it clear that I have a huge amount still to learn and a long way to go. Huge thanks!”

We have heard of some people struggling to be able to focus during an on-line course lasting more than a few hours, so we made sure there were plenty of breaks and even included some practical work.

“Structure of weekend was great – felt like I got enough out of each session without being completely overwhelmed with information”

“The pace of the weekend was really great – enough breaks and the sessions were all about the right length”

“Just a big thank you to all the instructors, everyone was lovely and really good at engaging with the students. I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend”

All the tutors on the course are APDT members, so you can be sure that the information you are given is based on positive, reward-based methods, in keeping with the APDT code of practice.

“All Tutors were lovely – huge amount of knowledge and expertise and absolutely no judgement from anyone and I was instantly made to feel comfortable to ask questions”

Reviews from our 2020 Students

“Fabulous knowledgeable and experienced tutors”

“It was wonderful to hear the tutors talk through the things we had read in books.  It just brought it to life and helped the information sink in and become readily accessible and understood.”

“I got so much from it and can’t wait for the next exciting instalment”

“Very welcoming and friendly instructors who organised the course very well”

“Just a big thank you to all the instructors, everyone was lovely and really good at engaging with the students. I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend”

“Once I got the hang of Zoom I relaxed and stopped stressing about being in charge of my own IT. I found using the computer upstairs and the tablet downstairs meant I didn’t have to unplug the equipment and move it around, which worked well for me”

“The pace of the weekend was really great – enough breaks and the sessions were all about the right length”

“Humour, friendship, support, information, detail, all lent itself to knowing I chose the right course and excited to participate in the next few years of training”

“Structure of weekend was great – felt like I got enough out of each session without being completely overwhelmed with information”

I really appreciated that we were sent folders with the presentations beforehand – having a quick look through to see briefly what we will be learning helped to settle my nerves a little bit, it meant everything wasn’t completely unknown.

Meeting everyone who had the same intentions and views as myself and could talk about dogs all day!

But further to that, it was really useful meeting other people who had knowledge/opinions/experience on things that I didn’t know or hadn’t heard of before so I’ve learnt a lot just from fellow peers

I loved it all!!!
