Foundation Course
We are offering two Foundation courses in 2024
Residential Foundation and Online Foundation
2024 Residential Foundation Course
The residential Foundation course will be held at Moulton College, Northampton
Weekend one:
Thursday, 11 April (evening), all day Friday 12, Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 April 2024
Weekend two:
Thursday, 8 August (afternoon and evening), all day Friday 9, Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 August 2024
Cost: Residential Foundation course is £1655 – including accommodation and full board
(Please pay deposit on application, and be aware that the balance will be due by 27 February 2024)
There is a discount of £150 available for Assistants of APDT Members
2024 Online Foundation Course
The online course will be delivered via Zoom
Weekend one:
Thursday, 21 March (evening), all day Friday 22, Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 March 2024
Weekend two:
Thursday 6 June (afternoon and evening), all day Friday 7 June, Saturday 8 June and Sunday 9 June 2024
Cost: Foundation Online course is £1155
(Please pay deposit on application and be aware that the balance will be due by 7 February 2024)
There is a discount of £150 available for Assistants of APDT Members
What does the Foundation course include?
Learning Theory – Understanding how a dog learns
Class planning – venue, exercises, equipment
Presentation – delivering your message in a professional way
Communication – how to make sure that what you say is understood by your clients
Challenging dogs and owners and how to deal with some common problems in class
Equipment – what is available, what should you recommend (or avoid) and why
How to teach various exercises – basic exercises explained, and how to progress them
Diet – basic understanding of what dogs need, and how to understand commercial food labels
Teaching an owner with a disability – how to adapt exercises to the physical needs of your clients
Body language – how to understand what the dogs are telling us
Business basics
Clicker training – the why’s and wherefore’s
The dog’s health and how it may impact on your clients and your class
Ethics
Punishment – you need to be aware of how this works, even though we do not use punitive or aversive methods

Residential Foundation course: £1655 (including accomodation and meals at Moulton College)
Online Foundation course: £1155
Discount of £150 available off the cost of the Foundation course for APDT Member’s Assistant.

2. Choose the appropriate ‘Foundation’ button and pay your deposit of £250
3. When you have paid the deposit, you will be sent an email confirming the payment has been received by Stripe and giving you a link to the application form. Please keep an eye out for this email (including checking ‘spam’ folder). It will be sent fairly quickly.
4. Complete the application form for the course you have paid the deposit for.
Once we receive your application form, and deposit, we will email you to confirm your place. Please allow at least three working days for this confirmation to be sent.

Terms & Conditions
A non-refundable deposit of £250 is required with your booking. Once Stripe has received your payment you will be sent an email inviting you to complete an online application form. Once both deposit and application form has been received by APDT you will be sent a confirmation of your place on the course (please allow at least three working days for this email to be sent). The remaining balance is due by 7 February 2024 for the Online course, and 27 February 2024 for the Residential course.
